R. Hidalgo

Felix Resurrección Hidalgo, full name Félix Resurrección Hidalgo y Padilla, was a prominent Filipino painter. Born in 1855 in Binondo, Manila, Philippines, he passed away in 1913 in Barcelona, Spain. Hidalgo was a highly decorated artist, having received the silver medal at the 1884 Madrid Exposition of Fine Arts, the gold medal at the Exposición General de las Islas Filipinas in Madrid in 1887, the silver medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, the diploma of honor at the Exposición General de Bellas Artes of Barcelona in 1891, the gold medal at the International Exposition of Fine Arts in Madrid during the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Americas, the gold medal for overall participation at the Universal Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. His notable peers included Juan Luna, José Rizal, Marcelo del Pilar, Mariano Ponce, and Graciano López Jaena. Hidalgo was educated at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid.
