Jason Montinola (b.1979) is a Manila-based Filipino contemporary painter and artist known for blending classical, Renaissance-inspired techniques with surreal, otherworldly, and often dark imagery. His work explores themes of existential tension, the human condition and spirituality.
He produces images that reintroduce tradition with otherworldly imagery. Being brought up as a child amid encyclopedias of paintings, the faces and figures of art history have always been a flurry in the artist’s mind. Montinola’s aesthetics show traces of Salvador Dali, though Montinola’s use of classic art historical subjects are where he and his influencer differ. His pictures have been shown at Yuchengco Museum, Philippines (2014); Last Rites Gallery, New York City, USA (2012); Distinction Gallery, Escondido, California, USA (2012).
